ADOBE FOUNDER’S TOWER

San Jose, CA

* Project with Gensler as Design Director

Adobe faced the daunting task of how to encourage innovation among a workforce of 4000 people. The solution proposed by the design team was to promote collaboration by removing barriers to connection and visibility. The building was organized into three neighborhoods of team space on each level, connected by double-height social spaces that not only facilitated unexpected interactions but also celebrated Adobe and its community. The vertical connection of these spaces creates a cascade of color and activity that is visible from the surrounding area.

Another challenge was to integrate the new Founder's building with the existing campus and the community. The building was physically connected to the campus buildings through a bridge spanning San Fernando Road and experientially connected through the distribution of amenities, meeting rooms, and outdoor gathering spaces. These created a sense of continuity and coherence to the campus. At the ground level, public uses and an art program framed and supported the public open space across San Fernando, making it a vibrant and integral part of the community.

The result of these efforts is a dynamic and collaborative environment that fosters innovation and a sense of community among Adobe's employees and with the surrounding area.
